Alaisa Arauz de Melgar receives the NNHF Community Award 2024

Mrs Alaisa Arauz de Melgar, the current Executive Director of the Fundación Panameña de Hemofilia, has been recognised for her incredible commitment to the blood disorders community.

Each year since 2010, the NNHF Community Award recognises persons who have shown exceptional voluntary engagement benefitting the haemophilia and allied disorders community in low- and middle-income countries. This year, amidst 32 nominations received, Mrs Arauz de Melgar emerged as the recipient of this award.

Mrs Arauz de Melgar, who has firsthand experience with the impact of living with haemophilia and blood disorders, has volunteered for the community for over 30 years. She played a pivotal role in the development and strengthening of the Panama patient organisation, which now serves as an example for the region.

Over the years she has became a role model and a strong leader, advocating for improved care and treatment for people with haemophilia and other coagulopathies in the country.   Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, as she has been recognised by the Ministry of Health and Social Security as a dedicated advocate for people with haemophilia and other coagulopathies.
