Moving Decision and Policy Makers to Action: East Africa Blood Disorders Leadership Forum
At the end of October, over 100 representatives from governments, patient organisations, NGOs and the healthcare sector of 12 countries came together for the East Africa Blood Disorders Leadership Forum, the first event of its kind to focus on bleeding and blood disorders.
With the tagline ‘Moving Decision and Policy Makers to Action’, the Forum was a collaborative platform aimed at advocating for improved care and support for those affected by blood disorders, drawing on collective experiences and fostering innovative solutions for the future of blood disorders care in the region.
Throughout the two-day event, expert panellists covered topics including donor and government roles in enhancing blood disorders care, and leveraging data and research for enhanced advocacy and care. Alongside this were presentations on Sustainable Blood Supply Chains from Zambia, and Medical Advisory Committees and their role in advancing care and advocacy from Uganda.
The many fruitful discussions at the event led to the strengthening of relations with government stakeholders, including commitment and support from East African Legislative Assembly MPs.
This event was sponsored and hosted by NNHF, Novo Nordisk Foundation, Kenya Haemophilia Association, Sickle Cell Federation of Kenya and Fondation Pierre Fabre.
