Fondation Pierre Fabre & NNHF strengthen partnership for better care in East Africa
Fondation Pierre Fabre (FPF) and Novo Nordisk Haemophilia Foundation (NNHF) strengthen collaboration to improve care for sickle cell disease and haemophilia in Kenya and Tanzania.
Zurich, Switzerland / Lavaur, France – October 2025 – Fondation Pierre Fabre (FPF) and the Novo Nordisk Haemophilia Foundation (NNHF) are further uniting to improve care for people living with sickle cell disease (SCD) and haemophilia in Kenya and Tanzania. This partnership builds on collaborative efforts that began in 2023 in West Africa, aiming to enhance access to critical healthcare for individuals affected by blood disorders.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) also plays a key role in this initiative by co-funding the NNHF programme, which will run alongside FPF programme to maximise the impact of their respective healthcare objectives. Both organisations will execute their programmes while ensuring that their strategies align with the specific needs of those they serve. Children and families affected by haemophilia and sickle cell disease (SCD) in Kenya and Tanzania will soon benefit from improved healthcare services. Efforts will include expanded screening and integrated care for SCD and haemophilia, enhanced diagnostic capabilities, as well as access to comprehensive treatment. Key activities involve raising awareness about SCD, training hundreds of healthcare providers and community health workers in both conditions, establishing a Regional Training Centre in East Africa to strengthen haemophilia and SCD expertise, and empowering patient organisations to advocate for sustainable care and impactful national health policies.
Looking Ahead: Building Sustainable Health Systems By 2028, this partnership aims to create a lasting progress in establishing self-sufficient healthcare systems with trained professionals, modern screening tools, and treatment pathways to ensure early diagnosis and lifelong care.
“This partnership reflects our shared vision of ensuring that no child suffers needlessly from a lack of diagnosis or care,” said Veronique Teyssie, Programme Manager of Fondation Pierre Fabre. “By joining efforts, we can amplify our impact and accelerate progress in tackling sickle cell disease and haemophilia in East Africa.”
“This collaboration is a game-changer for East Africa,” said Llyord Mwaniki, Programme Manager at NNHF. “By combining our expertise and resources, we will not only train hundreds of healthcare professionals but also strengthen patient organisations and advocate for policies that make care accessible and sustainable for generations to come.”
The recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalises this collaboration and ensures a coordinated approach through 2028, reinforcing both organisations’ commitment to systemic, long-term impact.
