Objectives

  • Encourage and engage people with bleeding disorders in sport activities
  • Demonstrate that improved joint status, muscle strength and quality of life as well as a reduction in number of bleeding episodes can be achieved by practising regular sports

Achievements

  • Clinical evaluations showed the reduction of joint bleedings through increased muscle and improved movement angles of joints
  • 30-40% increment of muscle strength
  • 10% increase in range of movement
  • 90% of swimmers improved stability of ankles
  • Minimalisation of bleeding risk
  • Strengthening of self-esteem
  • Discipline and concentration capacity
  • Acceptation of condition
  • People with haemophilia and supporters witnessed the increased self-esteem of the patients
  • The entire team completed the swim across the two rivers and extensive media coverage raised awareness of haemophilia and what people with haemophilia can accomplish
