National education and awareness creation programme in haemophilia

Objectives
- Create a national education programme for healthcare professionals including development of educational material and guidelines of management of haemophilia
- Establish of haemophilia active groups in all regions to run “Haemophilia School” for people with haemophilia and families
- Improve laboratory in Kiev Regional Hospital and run retesting-programme of known people with haemophilia
Achievements
- Project kick-off meeting with 44 doctors from 21 regions
- Haemophilia Active Groups in each oblast determined by Ministry of Health
- 11 educational booklets created in Ukrainian for healthcare professionals, people with haemophilia and their families
- Two five-day educational seminars for 48 haematologists from 23 oblasts of Ukraine and Kyiv city
- Three “Haemophilia School” sessions for patients in Sumy, Lviv and Kiev for a total of 160 people with haemophilia
- Hospital allocated room to create a local haemophilia centre
- Equipment and reagents for laboratory purchased to re-diagnose people for haemophilia
- Physiotherapy training for 20 physiotherapists and 26 haematologists (co-funded by NNHF and WFH)
“Through this project we have developed the seven brochures for healthcare professionals, patients and their families on various topics, such as ‘What is haemophilia’ and ‘If your child has haemophilia’. This is because it is difficult to find literature on haemophilia in the Ukrainian language and our doctors as well as patients need to have access to more information about bleeding disorders,” Dr Moroz.
