Objectives

  • Rural care and reference centre development:
    • Support the set-up of outreach programmes
    • Healthcare professionals training programme
    • Develop facilities and regional efficacy of the haemophilia reference centre in PE
    • Support improvement of diagnosis

Achievements

  • Kick-off meeting and regular meetings with DoH
  • Opening of centre in Port Elizabeth with media presence
  • Creation of educational material in isiXhosa (3,000 copies)
  • 9 workshops for 322 healthcare professionals
  • Outreach: Haemophilia nurses from Mthatha and Queenstown visited rural clinics; continuous exchange
  • NHLS laboratories in East London and Mthatha accredited
  • Patient camp for 37 people with haemophilia from all over Eastern Cape
