Objectives
- Rural care and reference centre development:
- Support the set-up of outreach programmes
- Healthcare professionals training programme
- Develop facilities and regional efficacy of the haemophilia reference centre in PE
- Support improvement of diagnosis
Achievements
- Kick-off meeting and regular meetings with DoH
- Opening of centre in Port Elizabeth with media presence
- Creation of educational material in isiXhosa (3,000 copies)
- 9 workshops for 322 healthcare professionals
- Outreach: Haemophilia nurses from Mthatha and Queenstown visited rural clinics; continuous exchange
- NHLS laboratories in East London and Mthatha accredited
- Patient camp for 37 people with haemophilia from all over Eastern Cape
