Objectives

  • Conduct a tailored training programme on these centres and assist them in developing cooperation with local government
  • Foster knowledge of people with haemophilia and families and give them tools to improve their quality of life
  • Raise awareness through education materials, press engagement and a documentary film
  • Diagnose and register 200 new cases identified through the proposed awareness activities

Achievements

  • Strengthened haemophilia comprehensive care work in Shandong.
  • Established and strengthened 5 haemophilia treatment centres in Shandong Province where each city level haemophilia centre had set up a multidisciplinary team including haematologists, paediatricians, nurses, laboratory technician, physical therapist, dentist, orthopaedist, local blood centre, patient group and local health bureau
  • 519 people with haemophilia were newly diagnosed and registered during the duration of the project 
  • More than 640 people directly benefited from the project: >100 doctors, 100 nurses, 30 lab technicians, 10 physiotherapists, 400 people with haemophilia and family members
