Objectives
- Form and train multidisciplinary teams in medical universities throughout the country
- Standardise screening and testing methods
- Perform regular examinations and consultations of people with haemophilia with congenital bleeding disorders
- Educate healthcare professionals and people with haemophilia
- Create awareness programme in southern and northern Bulgaria
Achievements
- 40 healthcare professionals from four medical university hospitals trained to support setup of multidisciplinary care in Plovdiv, Pleven, Stara Zagora and Varna
- 261 people with haemophilia received medical consultations by specialists in Sofia and follow-up consultations in their regions
- Computers installed in the four medical university hospitals to update the patient registry
- Screening and testing methods standardised and certified in three medical university hospitals
- More than 250 people with haemophilia were given access to multidisciplinary consultation
“Through these projects we have come a long way in improving haemophilia care in Bulgaria, and I hope the results of the project stimulate the Bulgarian authorities to initiate a national programme on blood coagulation disorders. Another positive effect is the involvement of young haematologists at the medical university hospitals, who are now learning and developing an interest in the field of coagulation disorders,” project partner representative Prof Toshko Jelev Lissitchkov.
