NNHF Community Award 2021: Celebrating a highly inclusive and caring partner
Dr Magda Rakha, President of the Egyptian Society of Hemophilia, Cairo, received the NNHF Community Award 2021
We are pleased to announce that the NNHF Community Award 2021 has been given to Dr Magda Rakha for her long-term commitment to people living with haemophilia in Egypt. As President of the Egyptian Society of Hemophilia (ESH), Dr Magda is known as an inclusive leader who is humble and continually seeks opportunities for others to learn and grow.

A measure of the impact of Dr Magda’s work is the high esteem in which she is held by both fellow healthcare professionals and the bleeding disorders patient community, especially its youth. Her nomination for the NNHF Community Award 2021 was put forth by four young members of the ESH.
The NNHF Community Award 2021 was presented to Dr Magda on 28 October in a surprise event arranged by her peers. The trophy was handed over on behalf of the Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity and the NNHF by Dr Magdy El Ekiaby, Vice President of the ESH at the occasion of the Rare Inherited Bleeding Disorders symposium held in Egypt’s new capital.

A humble and caring leader
“Dr Magda truly cares about each individual in our community. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she continually followed up with our patient-group members to see how people were doing and ensure we were receiving the best possible care,” said Mohamed Abohagar.
Dr Magda is currently working with the team in the framework of the third project supported by the NNHF: to decentralise care across Egypt, empower youth and establish a national online bleeding disorders registry. Together with Dr Adly Sabbour, a physiotherapist and musculoskeletal care (MSK) expert, she was previously responsible for improving MSK care and establishing a patient registry to collect outcome data while strengthening the haemophilia dental care clinic in Cairo.

About the Community Award
Each year since 2010 the NNHF Community Award is given to recognise an individual or group that has shown exceptional engagement and dedication to the haemophilia and allied bleeding disorders community with lasting impact.
