NNHF Community Award 2020: Building partnerships in Pakistan

Congratulations to Mr Masood Fareed Malik, haemophilia patient advocate and winner of the NNHF Community Award 2020!

Mr Masood Fareed Malik has made a difference to thousands of people with bleeding disorders in a country where until recently it was only possible to get proper treatment and care in major cities. As a person with haemophilia A, he knows what it is to live with severe factor VIII deficiency. Thanks to the efforts of this dedicated community activist, people with haemophilia and allied bleeding disorders benefit from improved access to care and treatment, less stigmatisation and greater government support in Pakistan today.

A true community leader

“I am excited to accept the NNHF Community Award 2020 on behalf of everyone involved in building a strong haemophilia community network in Pakistan,” said Masood Fareed Malik on receiving the award. “Together, our advocacy is responsible for government authorities’ engagement for safe treatment and improved care. With their support, we will continue to share knowledge and raise awareness of this disease and its impact on our society.”

Mr Malik is a highly motivated community leader with a talent for bringing people together. For twenty years, he has collaborated closely with healthcare professionals and patients in the five regional chapters of haemophilia patient groups serving the community (Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Quetta and Peshawar). He has been instrumental in unifying and empowering the patient organisation and its Chapters as President of the “Hemophilia Foundation-Pakistan (HFP)”, since 2018 in his volunteer capacity. Mr Malik has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and previously worked for ten good years with the “Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS)”.

Together with HFP (former Pakistan Haemophilia Patients Welfare Society – PHPWS), he led the team to win the NNHF Project of the Year Award in 2016. The NNHF-sponsored projects Pakistan 5 and 6 have enabled consolidated patient data with the creation of a national web-based registry, while improving access to care and the identification of new people with bleeding disorders through innovative awareness-raising activities. A huge milestone for Mr Malik was the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding with Chughtai Lab, with the support of NNHF, for a viral and inhibitor screening initiative in 2018. The partnership is helping people with bleeding disorders across the country to live safe and healthy lives.

Please join the NNHF in celebrating Mr Malik and Hemophilia Foundation-Pakistan!
